Disability Programmes

\We feel very passionately about the fact that everyone can be part of Heartlift and our activities. We consistently work with young people with disabilities offering support to both the child and the families.

In 2007, we organised the National Schools Wrestling Championships and introduced the inclusion of our pupils with disabilities and schools. This was the first time ever that they had been offered the opportunity to take part in this event. It was a proud moment for us as we demonstrated that a disability should never prevent a person taking part in an event and they should be offered the same chance to succeed, achieve and enjoy these moments.

Since October 2008, we have worked and continue to work with the Council Children with Disabilities Team via Short Breaks funding. This allows us to offer a variety of fun activities during holidays and weekends which are tapered to suit each persons individual needs. It also allows the family the chance to have some respite and a well earned, often much needed break.

To both the children and their families our ‘buddying scheme’ has proven extremely successful and not only helps towards full integration but also continued friendships.   We continually work with local schools and care services to deliver a wide range of activities and ensure that everyone can have fun and be involved.

Inclusion is so important and the need to remove preconceived ideas of what can and cannot be done. We were delighted to see the opinions of people change as they progressed in the activities we introduced. We see the child, not the title that society has placed on them.

We would love to help you, so if you feel that this could benefit you in any way, please get in touch with us and we will do our utmost to help.
